The Seventh Wave

A BIPOC- and queer-run literary arts nonprofit, The Seventh Wave publishes art in the space of social issues. Bretty is one of the cofounding members of the organization, which he built with three others in 2015. Bretty is currently the Director of Programs for TSW, and oversees the Community Anthologies program, a cohort-based storytelling platform that gives TSW’s editorial keys to four editors-in-chief to curate their own anthologies. Bretty also heads up graphic design, grant writing, and social media for TSW. Watch a video about our in-person residencies, or take a scroll through some of our work.

  • "Never in my career have I worked with such involved, inspiring, passionate editors, and I'll never forget it. Thank you for seeing me, and thank you for all the work you do."

  • "So often things just get published basically as-is. You were so thoughtful and thought-provoking with your comments. I’m not sure I’ve ever been read quite so well by anyone. Thank you. I had no idea when you accepted my work that I’d get so much editing support."

  • "The Seventh Wave's approach to publication is truly radical in the best of ways. The level of support from the moment of acceptance was such that I knew my piece had found the best possible home and that I had found a community of incredible writers to share my experience with."

  • "There are a lot of literary magazines in the world; what sets TSW apart is the way they run. From submission to editing to publication to promotion, everyone I worked with at TSW kept things clear and well-organized, and made me feel truly valued and appreciated as a contributor."
